Model of the Construction of a Timber Ship

Model of the transverse section of a ship amidships, with three decks. One side is planked, as is half of the upper deck; the other side shows only the internal framing and beams. The hull shape is entirely square, the bottom composed of two layers of straight beams supported by two keels; the floor timbers project beyond the ship's side, creating a rim at the bottom which is planked. The sides consist of vertical internal framing, planked on one side. On one side, two knees with ten brass pins are fitted in the bilges, but these knees do not appear elsewhere in the construction. The decks are indicated by deck beams and clamps, supported by three rows of deck posts that project above the upper deck; deck beams and posts are set into the sides and bottom with half-lap joints.
