Half Model of a Floating Battery

Polychromed stacking model (starboard side) of a floating battery, grey below and black above the waterline. The hull is that of an 84-gun ship of the line, the lower part sawed off and fitted with a flat bottom, the upper decks removed and replaced by an armored superstructure with sloping fore- and aft bulkheads: this superstructure has high fore- and aft sections with inward-sloping roofs. Three gunports on the sides and two rows of one-and-a-half gunports each in the fore- and aft bulkheads (the battery carried six guns forward and six aft). In the opposing inner bulkheads of the upper sections, four firing ports were placed on each side: the sharpshooters had to fire obliquely from here. Behind a rudder.
