About this work

Polychromed model of a section of a ship's side with a boat on two iron davits, on a baseboard with simulated water. The model demonstrates the boat's lowering, where two hooks on the davit tackle are released by removing a locking ring in the middle. The mechanism simultaneously plugs a scupper in the bottom of the boat with a lever in the cabin. The boat is smooth-sided with a flat transom, the bow rising at both ends; it has an open cabin, four scuppers plus two small scuppers supporting the mechanism, and six bollards on the sides.
