About this work

Model of a capstan in a wooden frame of two levels. It is a capstan for eight windlasses and has no pawls to prevent backsliding. The wooden king extends to a track on the lower level and is equipped with two arms with wheels that run against the ceiling of the lower level to prevent the king from rising. The floor around the heel of the capstan is provided with an inclined plane; around the heel of the drum is a ring on wheels to reduce friction. This arrangement ensures that the rope on the drum shifts; the inclined plane was adjustable. Scale 1:10 (estimate).
