About this work

Model of a capstan in a wooden frame representing two decks. The capstan is for twelve windlasses and has eight pawls in the heel against backsliding. The metal king extends to a track on the lower deck. This capstan has two speeds, obtained by lowering or raising the pawls in the head and in the heel; the gearing, consisting of sun-and-planet gears, is placed under the upper deck between the beams of the fishing gear. Scale 1:10.
