Model of a Capstan with a Winch

Model of a winch spindle. Model of a capstan on a wooden floor. It is a spindle for eight windlasses with a winch in the head and four pawls in the heel against backsliding. To use the winch, the head with the small brass deck plate is coupled to the immovable king, which is set with a square heel in the reinforced floor. The drum is provided with a toothed wheel under the head, driven by two handles with roundels in the head; the drum thus rotates under the head. The handles can be disengaged with wedges. To use the spindle with windlasses, the deck plate is removed and the head is attached to the drum with two keys, so that the head and drum rotate together around the king. The drum has six clamps. Scale 1:10 (estimate). This model is almost identical to NG-MC-199.
