Model of a Capstan

Model of a capstan on a wooden floor. It is a capstan for eight windlasses; two pawls in the floor prevent backsliding, one for each direction of rotation. The drum has five teeth in the shape of a shallow Z, filled at the bottom and at the head to form a circle. The brass king is fixed in the deck, the drum rotates around it. Three bolts secure the deck plate of the head, which rests on the rounded point of the king and lifts the drum slightly from the floor to minimize friction. Above the deck plate is a support for unknown use mounted. Scale 1:15 (estimate).
