Model of a Capstan

Model of a capstan on a wooden floor. It is a capstan for eight windlasses and has four pawls in the heel against backsliding; these pawls can, like other capstans, be set in two positions, one for each direction of rotation, but are additionally provided with a wedge that prevents the pawls from dropping into the tooth rail in the heel and thus being disabled. The drum has five 'Brown' clamps: these are relatively thin teeth that are widened and thickened at the top and bottom and provided with metal fittings. The head is loose. The king, which is fixed in the floor and around which the drum rotates, is made of brass; the floor is significantly reinforced. Scale 1:10.
