Model of a Capstan

Model of a capstan in a two-level wooden frame. It is a capstan for eight windlasses and has no pawls to prevent backsliding. The wooden king extends down to the lower level. The drum is entirely round; the cogs do not protrude except at the heel where they are thickened and can move up and down. Below the drum, an inclined plane is fitted, causing the cogs to move up and down as they rotate, shifting their thickened part along the line on the drum. The inclined plane can be removed from under the drum. Scale 1:10 (estimate).
