About this work
The administrators of the Naval Model Room not only had new models built, but sometimes also made 'improvements' to existing models. This ship model of an 18th-century East Indiaman was equipped with a storm jib mast and lightning conductors a century later by J.P. Asmus. The VOC did not have a ship named Vergelijking in service; the name suggests that the model was intended to make new shipbuilding techniques understandable.
