Model of a Carriage for a 36-Pounder Carronade

Model of a sliding carriage for a 30-pound carronade. The tapering body consists of two cheeks with fittings and rings, with two very heavy wooden blocks between them. The cheeks have a curved top and an elliptical cutout at the bottom. On top of the front middle block, the ears with tappans are attached; on the rear fitting, the track for the elevating screw is present. The carriage rests on friction blocks under the cheeks to limit recoil. Two small rollers on a hinge at the rear can, using the handspike, lift the back of the carriage; the carriage then also rests on two rollers placed in front of the front crossbeam, making it easy to roll aboard.
