About this work

Hat of rough black felt, black leather crown, brim, fleur-de-lis and brim with reinforcement at the back. The underside of the flap is green. Back: yellow metal buckle of a shako. Black leather belt. Missing two white loops in the brim crown and holes at the front. Presumably shako corps of the Royal Marines. Lining: remnant of leather edge. On the bottom in white paint: E / 191 (or 131?).
