Flintlock pistol with battery lock, part of a pair. An octagonal barrel of blued steel, slightly widening at the muzzle. A steel front sight bead is present on the forward part of the barrel. The barrel is decorated with bands of gold leaf at the muzzle and at the breech; the section around the touchhole is entirely gilded. The top of the barrel is marked with gold. A number is stamped on the top of the barrel. The rifling features so-called "hair grooves." The breech block consists of a separate block with a square hole into which the hook-shaped breech piece of the barrel fits. A sight notch is present on the breech block section. Lock: Flintlock battery lock; blued steel. The rear part of the lock plate lies on a lower level and is engraved with an eagle on a tree branch; the cock is decorated with engraved leaf and pinecone motifs. The lock plate of the pistol bears the inscription and of pistol (2) ARQUEBUSr DE L'EMPEREUR. The locks are marked on the inside.
