About this work

Flintlock pistol with battery lock, belonging to a pair. An octagonal barrel of blued steel, slightly widening at the muzzle. On the front part of the barrel is a steel front sight bead. The barrel is decorated with bands of gold leaf at the muzzle and at the breech; the section around the touchhole is entirely gilded. The top of the barrel is marked with gold. A number is stamped on the top of the barrel. The bore has so-called "hair lines." The breech block consists of a separate block with a square hole into which the hook-shaped locking piece of the barrel fits. On the breech block section is a sight notch. Lock: Flint battery lock; blued steel. The rear part of the lock plate lies on a lower level and is engraved with an eagle on a tree branch; the cock is decorated with engraved leaf and pinecone motifs. The lock plate of the pistol bears an inscription. The locks are marked on the inside.
