Flint pistol

Part of a pair. The lock is unadorned except for a signature; the inner side of the lock plate is marked IN under a heart. The barrel has two bands with rings and is engraved here and there with leafy work; rear sight in an acanthus leaf in relief on the tail of the barrel, a silver mask in relief as front sight; stamped at the bottom with the coat of arms of Amsterdam and a crowned heart. The stock is simply carved with, among other things, leafy work. The gilded, yellow copper mount with chased relief decoration, apart from the two octagonal ramrod pipes, consists of a trigger guard with decoration against a granulated background including a medallion with a laurelled head, a symmetrical, openwork screw plate consisting of a two-headed bust with leafy work on both sides and a jester's head, a crowned thumb plate framed by leafy work, and a butt cap with leafy work and curls against a granular background and a mask at the bottom; the ramrod has a gilded, yellow copper cap.
