About this work
Silver trowel with an ivory handle, around which a silver band is wound, on which the date is engraved. The short side of the blade has an elegantly carved edge. On the upper side, a crowned national coat of arms, with carved plant motifs and abstract motifs on the edges. Dated: 22 OCTOBER 1841. Marked: on the blade l.: climbing lion with 1 (hallmark; Minerva head (fineness), r.: VK and b (year letter 1861), m.: JE MAINTIENDRAI. Inscription on reverse: KING WILLIAM III has with this Trowel the first etc.
