From the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
Photo album in reddish-brown leather binding with a brass lock. The front cover is decorated at the edges with metal mounts. The endpapers feature a floral motif. The album contains 14 thick cardboard leaves with gold edges. Each page has passe-partouts for cabinet photographs and/or cartes-de-visite, all framed with gold lines. In total, the album contains 80 cartes-de-visite and 16 cabinet photographs. They are studio portraits of primarily Dutch, Dutch-Indie, Belgian, German, French, Italian, Russian, Turkish, and Cuban military personnel. In his archive, collector L.J. Hartkamp lists the prices he paid for the album and for the photographs separately. The inscriptions under the photographs are in his hand. This may indicate that he assembled the album himself.
