About this work
In a room a mother sits on a chair, a sewing basket next to her on the floor, scissors in the right hand. With the left hand she gives one of the two children standing at her knee a slice of bread. The girl holds her hands folded in prayer. The second child already has a slice of bread in hand. Hanging from both is the school slate. A small dog sits on the floor in a begging posture. Behind them stands the father with the eldest son at a table, on which various books and an inkpot stand.
