About this work
Paul is bitten by a snake while he attempts to throw a bundle of wood on a fire. He is surrounded by a large group of people - prisoners who together with him had suffered shipwreck on the way to Rome at Malta (in the background the ship can be seen on the coast). Below the scene four lines of Latin. This print is part of a 36-part series of prints of the history of the apostles.
