About this work

In the foreground, on a stone staircase of an antique palace, lies a sleeping youth. His head rests on a capital. Above him an antique ornamental vase on a pedestal. Fortuna floats above the youth, the wheel of fortune in her left hand, and throws him coins. To the right in the middle distance floats Science, who brings books and a laurel wreath to a man, who is engrossed in study. To the rear right a fountain. In the lower margin Latin verse in four lines.
