About this work
40 French men, of whom some were in slavery in Tunis and some had been captured by Algerian corsairs, were redeemed in Tunis by the Order of Trinitarians. Such enslaved people were known as 'Christian slaves'. In honor of their redemption, they are led through the city in a procession in Paris. In the caption the legend 1-9.
