About this work

A landscape with the Judgment of Paris on the left in the foreground. Mercury has brought Paris to the gods to settle a beauty contest between goddesses. He must choose who is the most beautiful: Juno (with the peacock as attribute), Minerva (in armor), or Venus (with Cupido beside her). Paris chooses Venus and presents her with a golden apple as a prize. In the background, a village by a river.
