About this work
The female personification of the Law of Nature (Lex Naturae) sits on an uprooted tree. In one hand she holds a heart, in the other a bit and a whip. In the background, God the Father punishes Adam and Eve by banishing them from paradise. In the margin, a four-line inscription in Dutch, Latin, and French.
