About this work

King Solomon sits on his throne and renders his judgment. Before the throne are the two women, both claiming motherhood of the living child. On the ground lies the dead child. Solomon orders the living baby to be cut in two to determine who the mother is. A man draws his sword and grabs the child by the arm. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the Biblical text in 1 Kings 3.
