About this work
At the border between the Southern Netherlands and France, near Luxembourg, customs officers find Jesuits trying to enter the country during a check. They are hidden in sacks on a farmer's cart. To the right a customs office, to the left a laughing cook and kitchen maid look on. In the middle two customs officers examine a trunk full of French reactionary laws. Satirical print on the expulsion and banishment of the Jesuits across the Belgian borders in October and November 1828, which they had crossed without permission after fleeing France. Below the depiction the legend A-I in French.
