About this work
The thirteenth stained-glass window in the Sint-Janskerk in Gouda, depicting the twelve-year-old Christ in the Temple among the scribes. Christ counts his arguments on his fingers, while the scribes study their books. In the background, Joseph and Mary hurry to find their son. In the far background, John the Baptist walks into the desert. In the lower scene, the donor of the window, Petrus van Zuyren, kneels before Mary with the Christ Child. Behind Petrus van Zuyren stands his patron saint Peter with the key as his attribute.
