About this work

The Ladder of Life of the man. On every step stands a man and on the step the corresponding age. To the left the young years from zero to fifty, to the right old age from fifty to one hundred. In the middle of the ladder a scene of the Last Judgment. To the left of it one sees a man walking towards his bride with the text: 'The wedding day brings anxiety and pain.' To the right of the Last Judgment a funeral is shown with the text: 'After the grave the eternal wedding shall be.' At the bottom in the margin three verses in Dutch and three verses in French.
