About this work

The personification of the Republic of the Netherlands sits on a throne, holding a scepter and a shield with the image of three crowns in her hands. To the left of the throne stand Mercury and Neptune, and to the right, personifications wishing to offer gifts to the enthroned Republic. In the foreground, a smith with a hammer at an anvil and two putti with a small scale.
