About this work
Fire in a sugar refinery on the Lauriergracht in Amsterdam on 29 December 1669. The fire is fought with old fire engines and water from the canal. Nevertheless, the building burns down completely. On the right, household goods are being removed from an adjacent building. A later state (with the letter) is plate 5 in the Fire Engine Book by Jan van der Heyden.
