About this work

The young prince Nintoku (313-399) and his brother sit by a balcony in the palace. The booklet the Chronicles of Japan (Nihongi or Nihonshoki) is compiled in the 8th century and one of the earliest history narratives of Japan. The poem refers to the older brother who must ascend the throne, it praises 'the scent of the plum blossom that accepts to open first'.
