About this work

Seated court lady in clothing from the Heian period (794-1185), a large fan in the hand, leaning against the balustrade of a wooden terrace overlooking the sea. The reference to Uji in the poem identifies the lady as Ukifune, from the 51st chapter of The Tale of Genji. With two poems.
