About this work

Warrior standing with legs wide apart and a folded fan between his teeth, against a silver background. Top right, a bat-shaped cartouche with a white rat. The actor is Ichikawa Danjûrô (1791-1859) in the role of Arajishi Otokonosuke, from the play Date Kurabe Okuni Kabuki. To protect his lord, Arajishi Otokonosuke kills a large white rat, which turns out to be the sorcerer Nikki Danjô. Danjûrô played this role in 1818 and 1829. With two poems.
