About this work
A man kneeling by a large unrolled letter. In the background New Year decorations, including a large round rice cake (kagamimochi). The man is recognizable as actor Ichikawa Danjûrô VII (1791-1859) by the emblem on his shoulders, here depicted during the New Year performance. In blindprint, the numbers for the long months of the New Year are indicated on the rice cake. With two poems.
