About this work

Ahithophel and the Arkite Hushai advise Absalom on the war plan against King David. In the background, Jonathan and Ahimaas—who were to bring the news of the plan to King David—hide in a cistern in the courtyard of a man from Bahurim. His wife covers the opening of the cistern with a lid, so that nothing can be seen. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the biblical text in 2 Samuel 17.
