Left: Patriarch Dan, the fifth son of Jacob. He holds the staff of justice in his hand. In the background a horse being bitten by a snake, references to Dan as upholder of justice and as 'serpent on the way'. Right: Patriarch Gad, the seventh son of Jacob.
