About this work
A winter landscape. In the sky the astrological sign of December: Capricorn. In the foreground Joseph and the heavily pregnant Mary seek shelter in an inn in Bethlehem. The entrance is denied them (Luke 2). In the background a busy marketplace. The print bears a Latin inscription and is part of a series depicting the life of Christ in the twelve months of the year.
