About this work

Minerva receives a young man and leads him towards the personification of God's commandments. Above her, a putto with a flame on his head and a bell in his hand flies. At her feet, a reading putto leans against a cornucopia and a putto with a laurel wreath stands by a globe. To the right of Minerva stands a portrait bust of Hugo de Groot. The representation is crowned by the coat of arms of Utrecht with the text around it: Illustra nos sol justitiae. On the left and right of this, busts of Justinianus and Ulpianus.
