About this work
178 liberated Christian slaves, mostly men and a few women, thank the burgomasters of Amsterdam for their freedom in the Burgerzaal of the Town Hall, 1683. All had spent a period of varying length in slavery in North Africa after the ship they were sailing on was captured. They were ransomed in Algiers in 1682 during a diplomatic mission led by Thomas Hees. Numbered in the upper right: Second part fol: 169.
