About this work
178 redeemed Christian slaves, mainly men and a few women, thank the mayors of Amsterdam for their liberation in the Civic Hall of the town hall, 1683. All of them had - one longer than the other - spent some time in slavery in North Africa, after the ship they were sailing on was captured. They were redeemed in Algiers in 1682 during a diplomatic mission led by Thomas Hees. Numbered top right: Second part fol: 169.
