About this work

178 liberated Christian slaves, mostly men and a few women, thank the burgomasters of Amsterdam in the Burgerzaal of the town hall for their freedom, 1683. All had spent varying periods in slavery in North Africa after their ship was captured. They were ransomed in Algiers in 1682 during a diplomatic mission led by Thomas Hees. Numbered in the upper right: Second part fol: 169.
