The Arminian Schans at Leiden, 1618

Sheet with an image and a description of the Arminian Schans in Leiden. The schans was erected on October 5, 1617 in the Breestraat at the town hall to protect the Remonstrant city council and waardgelders. The print was probably copied from an earlier print with French verses (see FM 1327), but it could also be that this plate is the original. An allegorical element titled 'd'Arminiaensche Bulleback' is placed above the schans. Below the image is a description of the events up to September 4, 1618 and an explanation of the letters in the image over three columns. Below that a Dutch verse in five parts beginning with 'D'Arminiaensche Bulleback'.
