The Arminian entrenchment at Leiden, 1618

Sheet with a depiction and description of the Arminian fort at Leiden. The fort was erected on 5 October 1617 in the Breestraat near the town hall to protect the Remonstrant city council and the waardgelders. The print was probably copied from an earlier print with French verses (see FM 1327), but it is also possible that this plate is the original. Above the fort, an allegorical element has been added titled 'd'Arminiaensche Bulleback'. Below the image, in three columns, is a description of the events until 4 September 1618 and an explanation of the letters in the image. Below this, a Dutch poem in five parts beginning with 'D'Arminiaensche Bulleback'.
