About this work

Count William III, lying in bed, listens to the stories of the farmer, left, and the bailiff of South Holland, right, standing next to the sheriff of Dordrecht. At the court of Valenciennes. Representation no. 5 in a series of six small scenes of the successive episodes of the story of the Justice of Count William III in the year 1336. These small prints belong on both sides of the large central representation. Each representation has a caption consisting of a proverb and a verse of two columns of eight lines. For this representation, the caption and text of the central representation are also included.
