About this work
The sorceress Circe sits on a throne. Before her stand Odysseus and Mercury. Circe gives Odysseus a bowl of soup with a magic potion. Mercury gives Odysseus herbs that will serve as an antidote. In the foreground left lies a man with a pig's head. Text in Latin in the lower margin. The print originally belonged to book 22 of the Atlas van Rome by Michiel Hinloopen (Schijnvoet book 10).
