About this work
The evangelist John writes his gospel. He sits at the foot of a tree. Next to him the eagle with the inkpot in its beak. On the left in the background Christ as the Good Shepherd. On the right in the background the baptism of Christ in the Jordan. God the Father looks on from heaven and the dove of the Holy Spirit descends upon him. In the margin a four-line inscription, in two columns, in Latin.
