About this work
Vertumnus bends over Pomona in the guise of an old woman. She sits under a tree and rests her arm on a basket of fruit. In her hand she holds a pruning knife. In the garden where they sit, pots with orange trees stand. On a wall sits a peacock. In the foreground a wine vine with ripe fruit winds its way into a tree. Putti watch. Below the image an explanatory text in French. Scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses (Met. XIV, 623-697 and 765-771).
