About this work

A beached whale on the beach at Egmond aan Zee on 15 February 1764. The whale is viewed by a crowd that has gathered, some of whom have come with horse and carriage. The whale was sold on 1 March 1764 for 810 Guilders. At the top a scroll with the whale seen from the back. In the middle below an explanatory text in Dutch.
