About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a matchlock musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand. With his thumb and middle finger of his right hand, he positions the burning match on the cock (part of the ignition mechanism) of his musket correctly. This is the same position as the one shown in the eighth print of the series. This print is part of the series of 42 numbered prints of matchlock musketeers from the Wapenhandelinghe.
