About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a matchlock musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand, having just fired, with the barrel angled upwards to avoid accidentally injuring a comrade. In his left hand, besides the musket, he holds a burning match. This print is part of the series of 42 numbered prints of matchlock musketeers from the Wapenhandelinghe.
