About this work

A soldier, full-length, to the right, holding a roer (a type of firearm) with his left hand, after he has fired, the barrel angled upwards to prevent accidentally wounding a comrade (no. 12), ca. 1600. In his left hand besides the roer also a burning match. Design drawing for plate 12 in the instructions for handling the roer in the Wapenhandelinghe of J. de Gheyn (1607). Military around 1600. Design for a print.
